MyPlate is the “new generation” food image to prompt consumers to think differently about their food choices.
The 2010 Dietary Guidelines suggests the following changes in three areas:
Balancing calories
Enjoy your food but eat less especially avoid over-sized portions.
Foods to increase
Make half your plate fruits and vegetables and at least half your grains whole grains. A switch to fat free or 1% low-fat milk will help reduce fat intake.
Foods to reduce
When consuming foods such as soups, breads, and frozen meals choose ones that are lower in sodium. Replace sugary drinks with water.
