Forest City Regional Elementary School Counseling Program

School Counseling services are available to all students and are considered an integral part of the educational program.  The elementary school counselor is an educator uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills, who understands and promotes success for today’s diverse students. At FCRES, we work towards implementing a comprehensive school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The data-driven program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social/emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success.  It also aligns with the school’s mission to support all students’ academic achievement as they prepare for the ever-changing world of the 21st century.

The elementary school counselor collaborates with teachers and parents on early identification and intervention of children’s academic and social/emotional needs, which is essential in removing barriers to learning and developing skills and behaviors critical for academic achievement.  Services provided by the school counselor can include both direct and indirect services. Direct services include instruction, appraisal and advisement, and short-term counseling (individual and small group). Indirect services include consultation, collaboration, and referrals to ensure appropriate supports are recommended to families and students in need.
