Fruit and Vegetable

 The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program allows for fresh fruits and vegetables to be distributed by the food service department to students four days a week through funds from a grant.  The program is intended to increase student consumption of healthy foods particularly through the introduction of a variety of different fruits and vegetables. Students also receive nutritional information which will help them make positive decisions about their health.

Student Events:

Students took part in a Nutrition Fair in the fall which focused primarily on the benefits of fruits and vegetables.

Also, during Food Day’s Apple Crunch, October 24th, all elementary students “CRUNCHED” apple slices at the same time in support of local farmers and making healthy food choices.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program was implemented by the United States Department of Agriculture in Pennsylvania in 2004.  This is the 3rd time Forest City Regional’s elementary school has received the grant.
